Definition of Commercial Invoice

Commercial Invoice is a term for international shipping documents provided by suppliers. This official document is given to consumers so that they know the details of the goods that the supplier offers; contains the type and value of the items sold. Customs use this commercial invoice as a legal basis for determining the customs duties.

Here’s what is usually listed on a commercial invoice:

Invoice information, which contains the following three things; invoice number, invoice date, and order number.
Shipper Information, which contains information about the sender of the goods, including the name of the sender, the complete address of the sender including the city name and zip code, the sender’s telephone that can be contacted, the sender’s fax number, the Value Added Tax reference number of the sender (specifically for countries that apply VAT), the country of origin of the sender.
Consignee Information, namely information about the recipient of the goods, including the full name of the recipient, the complete address of the recipient including the city name and zip code, telephone number of the recipient who can be contacted, the recipient’s fax number, the value added tax reference number of the recipient (especially for countries that apply VAT) , recipient country, notify party alias names of parties related to delivery of goods, and addresses of parties that need to be notified if the goods have been received.
Shipping Information, refers to information about the goods sent, including the Air Way Bill (AWB) number, Forwarding Agent aka the sending company, the date of delivery of the goods, and the method of delivery payment (whether it is prepaid, collected, or free domicile).
Shipment Information, refers to information regarding the goods sent, including the number of parts of the goods delivered, the description of the commodity goods sent, the gross weight of each item sent, the quantity of goods sent, the price value of each item sent, the amount goods per set, the total gross weight of the goods delivered, the currency in which each item is valued, the total value of the delivery packages, the country of origin where the goods to be shipped are produced, the name of the sender, and the signature or company seal of the sender.
